San Antonio Trip - Day 2

Friday 5.28.10

We woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and ready for our great weekend to get started.  One thing I like about Choice Hotels is the fact that they offer a free breakfast.  Here is what I had:

1

I was only slightly concerned about the patty shaped egg.  It just seemed odd but I guess McDonald's has a round egg on their breakfast sandwiches.

So after breakfast we packed up and hit the road.

2

Got into San Antonio around 1:30 pm and checked into the O'Brien Hotel Historic Boutique which is a fabulous little hotel.

The hotel has 39 rooms and ours was beautifully decorated.  It's really conveniently located just a few blocks from the Riverwalk and it wasn't too far from Market Square where our favorite restaurant Mi Tierra is located.  There was even a little basket of goodies in the bathroom in case you forgot to bring something.

M didn't know but I was having chocolate covered strawberries from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory delivered to the hotel.  The girl that answered the phone was so helpful!  She helped me work out all the details.

mmmm...don't they look yummy?!!

After we settled in and unpacked our clothes we headed to Market Square to eat at our favorite restaurant, Mi Tierra.  I enjoyed another margarita (or two) with dinner.

After dinner we decided to try the flan.  M had never had it before and when he asked the waiter what it tasted like the waiter responded, "Flan".  Alrighty then.

One of the things we enjoy about Mi Tierra is the mariachi's that stroll about.  Our favorite duo was working that afternoon and they obliged when I requested my two favorite songs.

Isn't that fun?  I know I am not the best "videographer" in the world but you get the idea.

After all the fun we headed back to the hotel for a relaxing couples massage.  We didn't leave again until the morning.  ;)

San Antonio Trip - Day 1

Thursday 5.27.10

We headed out after M got off of work.

The plan was to spend the night in Waco, Tx and drive the rest of the way on Friday.  Traffic wasn't bad and we made good time and before we knew it we had arrived Waco, home of Baylor University.

We were hungry and decided to try out Elite Circle Grille which is a well known restaurant in the area.  Check out this link to find out more info on this cool place.

After settling in our booth we ordered margarita's and our waiter Brandon brought us pre-dinner rolls with toasted coconut butter.  Mmmm - yummy.

For dinner M ordered chicken fried chicken and I had a burger and fries...and another margarita.  :)

We headed back to the hotel to rest up for the next days travel.

Your Bucket List

I was browsing through blogs one night and I came across someone's blog called "My New Thing To Do" and at the bottom was her bucket list.  So what is a bucket list?  It's basically a list of things to do before you die.

Now on her bucket list she had various items:  write a book, take some classes etc.  Included on there were some places she wanted to visit.  One of them was Mt. Rushmore.  That was on someone's bucket list?

I've been there!  I felt totally cool that I had already visited somewhere that someone else really wanted to visit.

What's on your bucket list?

Pink Cakes & Pink Frosting

Cake is a delicious thing.  Birthday cake is especially delicious thing.  There are shows dedicated to cakes - Ace of Cakes, Cake Boss etc.  There are blogs too.  My favorite is Cake Wrecks.  Funny stuff on there, you should check them out and tell them AFWingMom sent you!  :)

There are all kinds of birthday cake.  Cakes with butter cream frosting, whipped frosting, ice cream cakes, cookie cakes, store bought cakes and my personal favorite - homemade cakes.

Pink cake with pink frosting has been the kind of cake I've chosen for my birthday cake since I was 5 years old.  For 38 years I've had the same cake.  High 5 for pink cakes!!

The Randomness of Erica

There are some things that I know that I'm surprised that Erica doesn't.  This got me to thinking about common knowledge.  What is common knowledge?  What does that really mean?

It basically means anything that is generally known to everyone.  Stuff everybody knows - or is it?

But I was also thinking about how common knowledge is affected by so many variables - it's affected by age, right?  Geographic location?  Religious affiliation?  Your zodiac sign?  Your job?  Of course all of those things...

So back to my story about Erica.  One day at work I was enjoying a kids meal and it came with a toy.  It was a little yellow bird.  I thought it was fairly recognizable as it was from a classic cartoon.

When I asked Erica if she knew the name of the bird, I was surprised she didn't know.  I mean really?  To her credit she knew what Woodstock was but just not who.

Recently I blogged about losing my Nancy Drew book.  I asked Erica if she knew who that was and she didn't.  Hmmm...most everyone else asked knew.  Erica thought it was someone who could cook.

She referred to Donkey Kong as Donkey King.

She had no clue who Alfred Hitchcock was.

But to have a clearer understanding of Erica you have to know some more about things about her that make her quirky.

She thought flautas were only beef and taquitos were only chicken.

She once asked if there were sharks in Hawaii.

She once "lost" her keys while at work.  Couldn't find them anywhere.  Finally found them in her car - which she had left running the whole day.

One day at work she was trying to send a fax.  We told her she had to dial 1 + the number.  She said ok.  She comes back and says the fax won't go through.  Courtney says, "What number are you dialing?"  Erica says, "1-1-800....."  No really she did.

Next time you see her ask her about the following:

Especial Tequila

Losing a flip flop at a liquor store

The "deaf" lady incident

There are so many more entertaining stories but they must wait for another  day.
