My first pair of Toms

Yes I did it.  I bought a pair of Toms.  The real kind not the fake ones.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Many of y'all already know the story behind Toms and what their mission is but here's a recap for those that don't:

One for One Movement

In 2006, American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created Toms.com, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. One for One. Blake returned to Argentina with a group of family, friends and staff later that year with 10,000 pairs of shoes made possible by TOMS customers.

Why Shoes?

Many children in developing countries grow up barefoot. Whether at play, doing chores or going to school, these children are at risk:

•A leading cause of disease in developing countries is soil-transmitted diseases, which can penetrate the skin through bare feet. Wearing shoes can help prevent these diseases, and the long-term physical and cognitive harm they cause.

•Wearing shoes also prevents feet from getting cuts and sores. Not only are these injuries painful, they also are dangerous when wounds become infected.

•Many times children can't attend school barefoot because shoes are a required part of their uniform. If they don't have shoes, they don't go to school. If they don't receive an education, they don't have the opportunity to realize their potential.

One Day Without Shoes

What is it?

One Day Without Shoes is the day we raise awareness of the impact a pair of shoes can have on a child’s life by going without shoes.

Why?

Millions of children live without shoes. Many are exposed to injury and disease each day, and are not allowed to go to school without shoes.

A day without shoes – I’d so love to do this but it’s not practical. I can’t not (I know that's a double negative) wear shoes to work and if I did it on a weekend seems like I’m doing it when it’s convenient and kind of goes against the concept, no?  Anyways, to find out more info please click this link: One Day Without Shoes Challenge.

So back to me and my Toms.  Yes I like them and yes I’ve broken them in so they feel pretty comfy. No I do not have a "Toms tan" yet and yes I will probably buy another pair in the near future.  Do you own a pair of Toms?
