Past Adventures - OKC 4/2006, part 1

We arrived at our hotel which was not as close to downtown OKC as we had anticipated. Add to that the girls restroom was being renovated as was the pool and it just gave us an unsettled feeling. We thought to ourselves, hmmm, maybe we should find a different hotel. And so we did and we chose the Whitten Inn.

We decided to go and eat breakfast somewhere and as we exited the hotel I noticed across the street there was a restaurant named Gramma Max's. I shouted, "There's Gramma Max's!" for no apparent reason. Well that was the name of the restaurant but why it excited me is a mystery. I had never eaten there or even heard of the place but seeing the sign stirred something inside me. I probably need to have that checked out.

We ate breakfast at Charly's. Ever been there? It's right off the highway and it was good and it was cheap. I mean, it was inexpensive.

Shirley was our waitress and she was pretty nice. When our food was ready she brought it to the table and said, "Soups on!" and we thought it was pretty funny. So check it out and ask for Shirley and tell her I sent you. She won't remember me and it won't make sense to her but we can all share a laugh or two.

We drove to our new hotel called "The Whitten Inn" where their motto is, "When you sleep with Whitten, you purr like a kitten." If you are going to have a motto that's a pretty nice one. On some of the doors there are red cards. We asked what that was about and they said that nurses who worked the night shift at the local hospital were asleep in those rooms. Apparently they rent them by the week. We've never seen that before so that was interesting.

We actually got an unexpected discount from The Whitten Inn. We were initially quoted a price of $79 and when we were talking with the lady at the front desk we were talking about budgets. She said if the price is not in your budget, what is? I said $65 and she said she could lower it to $67. What else is there to say besides....okay.

We freshened up in our hotel room and headed to the State Capitol. To be continued.....

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for so many things! Here are the five things I am thankful for this week.

1. I am thankful for the delicious dinner that girlies made for us tonight. We had a very filling chef salad made with a lot of love. :) A great supper on a hot day.

2. I am thankful our children are all healthy.

3. I am thankful for lemonade. Lemonade rocks. I don't actually think there is such a thing as lemonade rocks but if there were I'd probably like them too.

4. I am thankful for my laptop. I am able to communicate with all my friends both old and new!

5. I am thankful for laughter. Lots and lots of laughter.

What are you thankful for?

Nick graduates from Tech School

Sheppard Air Force Base

Wichita Falls, TX

On Thursday June 11, 2009 Nicholas graduated from Tech School at Sheppard AFB

He was a part of the 365TH TRAINING SQUADRON

His training group was the 782d. I found this on their fact sheet. Mission: Develops, conducts, and evaluates technical training in aircraft avionics maintenance career fields while reinforcing military conduct and discipline to produce skilled and professional personnel for operational units throughout the United States Air Force. Provides career development, supplemental, and craftsmen courses for all avionics specialties.

My awesome sister (Aunt Gina) was there to share the day with us.

My wonderful and always supportive parents (Papa and Gramma) were also able to share the day with us.

Nick is now home in Washington state to participate in RAP (Recruiter Assistance Program) and then will be headed to his permanent duty station in South Dakota at Ellsworth AFB.

Nick's training class. He's the cute on in
the front row, 4th from the right. :)

The "About Me" section

Have you ever thought about the "About Me" section? Well I did tonight. In fact I spent a great deal more time on it than I really think is necessary.

Now that your back from quickly reading what I wrote let me say this, what is written did not turn out the way that I wanted. I wanted something clever. Profound. Witty. Humorous even. What I ended up with seems kind of bland. Not so clever, profound, witty or even humorous.

So that got me to thinking. Maybe "About Me" writing is someone's niche? Maybe there are people out there that all they do is come up with really awesome "About Me" sections. I would suspect that the "About Me" niche is not mine. I even tried to read other people's sections to see what they wrote. All that did was leave me feeling more stumped about what to write.

My dilema was that I wanted to convey some things about myself just in case someone was browsing blogs, stumbled across mine and wanted to offer me my dream job based on my "About Me" section. Now I agree that the likelihood of that actually happening is a longshot but you never know! It could happen! If nothing else at least I have hope.

Isn't hope a wonderful thing to have?

Why is getting started so hard?

I've thought about this in regards to blogging and pursuing my dreams. I like writing and I assume I'd enjoy blogging. I've blogged a little bit before and I thought it went well. I like taking pictures and sharing them and a blog would be a great opportunity to do that. So why am I finding it so hard to get started?

Is it FEAR???

That's something to think about. In fact my friend Carla was in my office today and we were talking about that very thing. Fear. She believes I'm holding back because of fear. I don't have an answer for that.

It's been said that fear is the absence of faith. Do I have a lack of faith? And is it a lack of faith in God? Myself? My strengths? Am I afraid that taking that step would result in my wildest dreams coming true? Am I afraid of success? What am I afraid of? If fear is the absence of faith what am I lacking faith in?

Matthew 17:20

And He said to them, "Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.

I welcome your comments and thoughts.....
