Presents for the 4th of July

So my husband is a mailman as you may already know from one of my previous posts.  If you didn't know or don't remember you can click here and learn more. 

I'm used to him receiving gifts around Christmas.  He's an awesome mailman and his patrons love him.  But you can imagine my surprise when he called and told me that he had received a present for the 4th of July. 

One of his patrons on his route gave him this

Huh?  Did you notice the paper in the top left corner that it was wrapped in?  If not, here's a close-up. 

Yes, that's Christmas paper.  It was an interesting gift and definitely a unique time to receive one.  My favorite part is now all the letters are lining up because they hear he's got swagger, but he kicks them to the curb unless they look like Mick Jagger.....

Breakfast made with LOVE

I'm not a big breakfast eater.  Don't get me wrong - I like to eat but I don't always take time to eat breakfast.  When I do it's clearly not a well thought out plan as evidenced by some previous choices.

Did you notice a consistent presence of coke with my meal?  I really need to do better....put that on the list of things to do.

So on our most recent trip to San Antonio we purchased a heart-shaped mold at The Guenther House.  Today M decided to make me some pancakes for breakfast. 

He made the batter and poured it into the mold

He flipped it over when it was ready

Now it's ready to serve on one of my favorite little plates

Celebrating Birthdays

So how do you celebrate birthdays in your family?

     Small dinners?

     Elaborate parties?

     Taking a trip somewhere?

     A barbeque in the backyard?

     Favorite dinner at home?

     Some other family tradition?

We usually have a family meal together on a Sunday afternoon.  We bring birthday cards and eat cake and it's a really fun time.  Sometimes we play a board game or something like that but mostly we just visit.

This year we celebrated my birthday and my sister-in-law Allison's birthday together at my Mom and Dad's house.  Here are some pics and as you can see my adorable niece Hailey always steals the show.

We had enchiladas, rice and beans for dinner.  Yummy!!

We had pink cake with pink frosting for dessert.  I've had this same cake since I was 5 years old.  :)  I still love it!

Hailey was tired from all the fun we had.

M surprised me with an unexpected and sweet gift.

It was a unique gift - he knows the things I like and the things that make me smile.  :)

Jury Duty

I arrived at the Central Jury Room after waiting in a humongous line.  It wasn't bad except for the people that were getting annoyed at the people who were cutting in line.  I mean chill out people! - I said excuse me! Haha!!  Just kidding but people were getting annoyed. 

We all sat in the room and watched the video and since we apparently were all exhausted from doing that we were promptly given a break.

This lady left the building via the emergency exit which did indeed sound a loud alarm when she opened the door.  Just like the warning sign said it would.  A few minutes later an announcement was made letting us know what happened - like we couldn't guess?  Anyway the announcer also said security would be up shortly to turn the alarm off.  Well that was reassuring. 

There's always one person in every crowd that knows a little bit about everything and a whole lot about nothing.  We had one.  Those that were nearby learned about the history and process  of the jury system, some miscellaneous fun facts and a weather report.  I figured any minute we'd hear some stock tips and breakaway to the same guy doing a Sham-Wow commercial or something.

People watching amuses and entertains me.  I didn't have to rummage around in my tote bag too much to keep myself busy and of course I had my handy dandy iPhone that kept me connected to facebook and Words With Friends. 

They finally started calling numbers and people started slowly filing out.  I had a high number so I wasn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Speaking of my number, here comes a Not So Obvious 5 alert:  My jury number was 1267.  1 + 2 + 6 + 7 = 16 and 1 from 6 is??  5!!  WhooHoo!!  My favorite number worked it's magic and after they called #1126 they made an announcement about 20 minutes after that was excusing us from jury duty.  Sweet action!!

So all in all not a bad day and I did get paid for being there.

I'm thinking.....VEGAS BABY!!!  Y'all don't try to stop me.

But wait!!  What is that I spy?  ANOTHER Not So Obvious 5 alert!!  Notice the date on the check?  7 - 1 - 1 = 5!  Wut?!! Wut?!!

Happy Hailey

Why is little Miss Hailey happy?  Well, it's because it's her birthday of course!!  Our sweet little niece celebrated her 1st birthday and we were happy to be a part of the fun.

My brother and sister-in-law invited everyone over for a cookout and cupcakes.  Combine those two things with cute decorations and an adorable little girl and it makes for a great time.

So here are some pics...well a lot of pics from the party.

Aunt Gina and Uncle Jarrett got her a laptop.  I think she's on facebook now chatting with her friends.

We got her a tiny piano....great noisemaker.  :::giggle:::

And we got her a little kitchen.  She's totally digging it as you can tell. ;)

Gramma and Hailey

Frankie and Allison gave Hailey a red wagon for her birthday.  Hailey and her cousin Taylor had fun going for the first ride in it!
