I belong to a group called Parents of a Son or Daughter in the Military. Valerie is a great gal with a heart for our children serving in our nation's military.
Patriot Day 2010 is the current project I'm participating in supported by the group. She was inspired by her son who told her how important letters were in Basic Military Training. She wrote him every day. When her son graduated from BMT she visited the USO and knew she wanted to help somehow.
Another friend joined Valerie in her efforts and together tried to come up with an idea that would work. Valerie, along with Debbie, thought of care packages and books but with a virtual group that is harder to do.
Their solution was writing cards and their project was born. Through word of mouth they've been able to grow their events from a small group of 17 to a great group of people encouraging our service men and women.
